Types of internships
Recent graduates of university Masters and Doctoral programs:
- Each internship has a total value of $30,000, which is given in full to the student as salary by the SME;
- The company contributes $15,000 to the intern;
- Mitacs contributes a matching $15,000 directly to the company.
Bachelor Degree Graduates (University or Degree Granting College):
- Each internship has a total value of $20,000, which is given in full to the student as salary by the SME;
- The company contributes $10,000 to the intern;
- Mitacs contributes a matching $10,000 directly to the company.
Current Masters and Doctoral students;
- Each internship has a total value of $15,000, which is given in full to the student as salary by the SME;
- The company contributes $7,500 to the intern;
- Mitacs contributes a matching $7,500 directly to the company.
The negotiation of salary and benefits is done solely between the Intern and the sponsoring company.
Frequently Asked enterprise Questions
Broadly, prospective interns must be graduates of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines and he/she must have graduated no more than five (5) years from his/her STEM program. Interns may also be current graduate students (Masters and Doctoral levels). Interns cannot be current employees of the company or hold current employment with another company. Interns may have previous FT employment, but cannot be currently employed.
Interns can only complete one internship through the Enterprise program.
No. You are welcome to apply, regardless of whether or not you have a company partner. Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be requested to view the current internship opportunities and select your top three choices. If there aren’t any opportunities which suit you, we will keep your application on file until a suitable match can be made.
No. Your company is welcome to apply, regardless of whether or not you have an intern identified. Once you have been pre-qualified, we will post your proposed intern job title and description on our website. Potential interns will be requested to visit the site and apply to their top three choices. You will receive notification of which interns have applied and will be asked to select candidates for interviews.
