Water distribution systems are important civil infrastructures that must be adequately managed nd maintained in order to provide expected levels of service to consumers. As such, they have  need for on-line support systems based on continuous monitoring of hydraulic and water uality parameters within the system. The purpose of this project is to modify and test a ydraulic simulation model with support of Global Positioning System (GPS), which will allow onitoring and optimizing water utilization and detecting leaks and pipe bursts in each ousehold.

The deterioration of our aging underground pipe network emerges as a critical problem. Concrete pipes may be damaged due to salt attack from outside and sulfide attack from inside, hence compromising its structural integrity. Repairs for such pipes are time-consuming and expensive. A revolutionary trenchless structural rehabilitation technique is introduced. In this technique Innovative honeycomb-FRP Composite Sandwich (HCS) are used for retrofitting concrete pipes (InfinitPipe™).

Les travaux engagés dans ce sens, initiés dans le début des années 2000 par Hydro-Québec, s’appuient dorénavant sur une collaboration (cQ2 : Hydro-Québec, CEHQ, Rio Tinto Alcan, Ouranos) visant à diffuser un message complet et cohérent quant au diagnostic des impacts sur les régimes hydriques en s’appuyant sur des bases scientifiques solides.

Development of a microbe granulation technology for the increased treatment of organic wastewater, removal of emerging containments and digestion of sludge

Today we are failing to properly and completely treat organic wastewater which results in large amounts of sludge buildup and many untreated emerging contaminates that are shaping and changing our environment. If we ignore this problem: we will see an increased need for resources to development new and very expensive mechanical processes to manage sludge, wildlife will experience further side effects, and the appearance of emerging containments that are causing additional side effects to the surrounding population will also continue to increase.

Control of point source low volume methane emission using methanobiofiltration technology

Methane is a key greenhouse gas (GHG), and atmospheric methane emissions in Alberta are associated with a variety of industry sectors: sanitary landfills, wood waste landfills, feedlot operations and the oil and gas sector. When the quantities released at individual locations are relatively small, this methane cannot be used as an energy source; therefore, environmentally acceptable methods are needed for their control. Recent research has shown that methanotrophic bacteria are capable of converting methane to carbon dioxide without producing toxic by-products.

L’industrie de la construction est un secteur majeur au Québec puisqu’elle représente à elle seule 13% du PIB et 1 emploi sur 20. Cependant, la réglementation qui l’encadre pose quelques difficultés. Cette réglementation date de 1968 et il s’agit de la Loi sur les relations du travail, la formation professionnelle et la gestion de la main-d’oeuvre dans l’industrie de la construction, ou loi R-20. La problématique soulevée dans cette étude est la partie de cette loi relative à la formation obligatoire pour les vingt-cinq métiers du bâtiment.

Integrated Resource and Energy Recovery System from Organic Slurries.

This is the first time that leading edge technologies are being put together: a microwave (MW) treatment process, a struvite crystallizer and an anaerobic digester, as a total manure treatment system for typical dairy farm operations. The new 915 MHz microwave unit will provide efficient nutrient solubilization and the resulting solution is suitable for generating struvite (fertilizer). Due to the efficient breakdown of solids particulates by the MW process, methane production via anaerobic digestion will be highly efficient with reduced digester footprint and huge savings in capital cost.

Hence, there is an urgent need to develop a set of integrated design guidelines for both wind and earthquake loads.

Ce bassin est cependant caractérisé par des problématiques liées à la gestion de l’eau ainsi qu’à la qualité de l’eau. Ces problèmes influencent non seulement l’alimentation en eau de la ville de Naolinco mais aussi plusieurs producteurs agricoles habitant plus bas que la ville.

Composting anaerobic digestate

The interest in organic waste treatment has increased a lot in the recent years. Among the treatment technologies, anaerobic digestion (AD) has gained a significant role in municipal solid waste management due to its energy recovery benefits. Digestate is the solid material produced from the biodegradation of organic waste during anaerobic digestion process. Management of a high volume of digestate is one of the challenges in AD technology. The digestate can be mixed with the organic waste and then applied to the composting process.
