Ouarda, a senior undergraduate student studying data science at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, is working with Dr. Forgeot d’Arc this summer to understand the autistic person’s perspective and provide a numerical assessment of the severity of their condition.
When a friend first told Rui Pan about an opportunity to study and do research in Canada, he never could have imagined that one day, he would call Vancouver home. Fast-forward three years and the Simon Fraser University (SFU) student wouldn’t have it any other way.
As the province with the highest crime rate in Canada, Saskatchewan has also been increasingly successful at reducing the rate and severity of crimes since 2003. Innovative approaches to policing and crime reduction have helped to tackle one of the most pressing social issues in the province.
Rohit had come to Canada in 2012 to pursue an MBA focused on entrepreneurship at the University of Victoria. During his program, he undertook a Mitacs Accelerate internship with Limespot, a small e-commerce start-up with five employees, a far cry from his experience at Blackberry.
The company was introduced to Mengru Wang, by her supervisor Dr. Eric Aubanel. They agreed to collaborate on a Mitacs Accelerate project, in which Mengru would develop a data visualization utility for EXN/Aero.
Ken developed an algorithm that can accurately predict the risk of a chat message in a computationally efficient manner. His algorithm was able to identify a number of spelling variants of blacklisted words and evasive patterns that had previously gone undetected by human moderators.

Teledyne was connected to Mitacs... to prepare an application for funding of a large-scale research project valued at nearly $1.7M. The company matched the funds for 15 interns from the two universities to develop infrared technologies for the company’s latest products.
