Six outstanding researchers will receive 2022 Discovery Awards

The Banting Research Foundation recently announced the outstanding six recipients of the 2022 Discovery Awards.

This award, a one-year grant of up to $30,000, recognizes the highest ranked applicants in an annual peer-reviewed competition for their big bold ideas in innovative health and biomedical research. The award presented since 1924 marks for almost a century of discovery and achievement contributing to a healthier Canada and a better world.

Dr. Catharine Whiteside, Chair of the Board of the Banting Research Foundation

“This year, 48 applicants submitted projects to the Foundation, of whom 20 were women and 28 were men. We are incredibly excited that 3 of 6 winners are female early-career researchers. Among the six pilot and feasibility research projects, one has a climate-health link focus. This project will increase our understanding of the health risks of climate change. Once again, we are deeply grateful to our partners, donors, and review panel for your support of our Banting Discovery Award program.”

Dr. John Hepburn, CEO of Mitacs

“The healthcare and biomedical science research communities encourage innovations that quite literally save lives. Mitacs proudly congratulates this year’s winners of the 97th annual Banting Research Foundation Discovery Awards for their innovation in the field. I also want to congratulate the Banting Research Foundation on awarding 50% of this year’s awards to women – demonstrating the leadership that young women investigators are showing when it comes to lifechanging discovery. I look forward to seeing what’s next for all of you.”

Warmest congratulations to our 2022 recipients. An awards party will be held on July 8, 2022 to honour our newest Discovery Awardees.
