Summary of Project:
CAE 7000XR simulators are designed to replicate actual aircraft to train pilots. The simulators are formed by different modules for manufacturing and testing purpose. The cockpit modules contain different aircraft and simulated instruments. In order to simulate the aircraft cockpit, our simulators contain electrical interface equipment and avionic boxes located on-board within their designated area of different modules. In order to generate a realistic simulation environment for the pilots, images are generated through our visual equipment on-board. All those different instruments and equipments require adequate cooling to function properly. Moreover, air outlets within the cockpit are connected to provide comfort to the pilots, as in the real aircraft. Further air outlets are located in the non-simulated area for general comfort of personnels on-board. All the above-mentioned airflow are generated by a single air conditioning unit off-board. Due to the differences between cockpits being used on the same platform, valves and blast gates are created at strategic locations to allow adjustment of the airflow distribution.
The interface equipment we use is very powerful. However, it generates a lot of heat at the same time. As a result, cooling those equipment becomes a challenge we are currently facing for certain designated area. In order to provide sufficient cooling to all equipment and personnel on-board, we want to have a good understanding of the current airflow within our 7000XR simulator, establish a minimum airflow requirement for different areas of the simulator, and create a strategy to optimize the airflow of the simulator.
- Generate a complete analysis and report of the current air distribution in the 7000XR simulator with full modularity
- Provide a minimum requirement of airflow for each area of the simulator
- Recommend an optimization of airflow for the complete simulator
- Collect heat dissipation data of equipment and instruments
- Collect air speed and temperature data at each air inlet / outlet
- Analyse collected data and calculate minimum required airflow
- Suggest solutions to optimize the current design

- Strong HVAC, Thermodynamics & Heat transfer knowledge
- Good data collection and analystical skill
