About the Company: 

The EBI is a brand new team within the Toronto Region Board of Trade created to develop an evidence base to fuel a rolling five-year forward plan, the Economic Blueprint, for Canada’s Innovation Corridor. In conjunction, the EBI is developing an Indusry Clusters Activation Program that will employ a cluster case study methodology to develop a 3-year cluster activation plan. Each Blueprint will feature each of the cluster case studies.

Project Description:

The EBI is a brand new team within the Toronto Region Board of Trade created to develop an evidence base to fuel a rolling five-year forward plan, the Economic Blueprint, for Canada’s Innovation Corridor to be released in February 2020 for the Board’s  175th anniverary.

The Economic Blueprint will feature population and housing trends, an outlook for our major industry sectors and our talent pipeline, and economic enablers such as the strategic investments in infrastructure and institutions needed to support economic growth across the Toronto-Waterloo Corridor.

The designer will work with the EBI team to understand the data outputs of the research and analysis, the implications of the research findings, and the narratives drawn from the research.

The designer will be tasked with experimenting with visual representations of data findings, potential products conceived by the Board, and options for visual expressions of the Blueprint which can be communicated to a wide audience.

Research Objectives:

  • Explore designs that comminucate key pillars of the economic blueprint
  • Explore data visualization techniques that communicate data trends
  • Explore data visualizations techniques that communicate spatial data at different spatial scales

Methodology:

Methodolgy to be developed in conjunction with the supervisor, but it should at least include the following:

  • Web-based research on use cases
  • Internal focus groups
  • Defined process for ideation and communication of designs

Expertise and Skills Needed:

  • Speciality in design and strategic communications. Open to design speciality
  • Highly proficent graphic design
  • Highly collaborative team player
