IC Infrastructure is a consulting firm based in Kelowna BC and we are the Program and Delivery Lead that are coordinating the work with a network of leading national industry associations including the Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM), bringing together professional representatives from Engineering, Planning, Finance, Management, Operations, Sustainability and more.

Summary of Project:

Developing a National Competency Framework for Municipal Staff across Canada:

We are working with national industry associations to develop a competency framework that will provide municipalities (cities, towns, etc) in Canada with a clear overview of what they need doing to be effective infrastructure asset managers and service delivery organizations – it will help them with staff training and hiring to fill gaps in their organization, as well as writing more appropriate job descriptions.  The framework will need to be scalable by municipality size, and useful for both small and large municipalities, regardless of their geography.  It will cover both technical asset management skills required, as well as the soft and more general skills that the organization will need to have to complete the full spectrum of asset management and infrastructure planning work.

Research Objectives/Sub-Objectives:

To achieve this, we are looking to work with a student interested in adult learning and education in an applied industry setting to research global best practice, leverage expertise from other industries and sectors, and work with industry experts and different levels of government from across Canada. We can provide the technical skill needed as inputs, and we need the student to contribute their adult learning expertise. We are developing an industry leading knowledge piece that will benefit the thousands of municipalities / communities across the country that are struggling to implement effective asset management and infrastructure planning practices.  The work will take place over the course of 2019.
