About Company:

Norsat International designs and develops products for ground based satllite communications including LNBs, BUCs and SSPAs and ground terminals.  Norsat has been leading the satellite communications technology for over 40 years and is actively continueing research and development to maintain this position.   The satellite products group includes a multi-disciplinary team of about 30 engineers including electrical,  mechanical and software engineers.   Norsat has a well equipped R&D facility with state of the art test equipment, wire bonding capability, prototype PCBA assembly,  simulation tools and prototype machine shop.  Norsat also works with a number local vendors for PCB and PCBA fabrication, machining and specialized consulting.  Norsat has good relationships with both University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) and has worked with both in the past. Other universities will also be considered.

Summary of Project:

Objective is a flat panel antenna that is capable of:

  1. Multiband transmit and receive
  2. Satellite communications use different bands for transmit and receive.Antenna to provide simultaneous transmit and receive
  3. Broadband: Operating band to be 15-20% of CF. For example 3 GHz band at 20 Ghz and 3 GHz at 28 GHz or 2 GHz at 11 GHz and 2 GHz at 14 GHz
  4. Power handling – up to 100W on Tx
  5. Beam forming
  6. Tracking – using active beanm forming
  7. Multiple active beams
  8. Manufacturable (cheap, easy to assemble)
