About Company:

DCD Design has been designing, engineering and manufacturing Underground and Aerial Cable installation tools as well as Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) down-hole equipment used for pullback of utilities for over 30 years. Currently, the company is exploring new opportunities of automating their production line and move into market of customized complex 3D printing.

Summary of Project:

DCD has two operational 3D printers, operational swivel and paint line production lines.  With over two years of 3D printing, DCD has an understanding of current scheduling requirements and pitfalls.  Research in automation has been started internally and with an advisory company. 

Research will focus on robotic/automation specification and selection, fixture and jig design, fabrication and assembly.Goal will be to ensure that DCD, as a Canadian company, maintains competitiveness in the international market.Goal for data analytics portion of the projects will be to interpret captured data to enhance manufacturing processes.Utilize data analytics both in labour hour optimization and machine optimization.
