Project Description:

Post-combustion micro carbon capture and utilization (µCCU) is an innovative approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of conventional boilers. AltaGas (and Pacific Northern Gas, its subsidiary in BC) is supporting the research to evaluate the performance and feasibility of conventional NG fired boilers retrofit with a µCCU unit. The successful intern will work with the technology provider and NG utility to analyse and optimise the µCCU reactor design.  

Background and required skills

Research Objectives/Sub-Objectives:

  • Chemical reactor design optimzation
  • Reduce capital and operating cost of the system
  • Analysis of alternative chemical reactions for µCCU

Methodology:

  • Reactor design and thermodynamic analysis using ASPEN software
  • Economic analysis
