Summary of Project:

AI @Centech is a 6-month international startup acceleration programme, whose members provide solutions powered by Artificial Intelligence.

Thales has selected Centech, one of the world's best accelerators, to host its Artificial Intelligence programme. This programme is part of a wider AI Center of Excellence that Thales created in Montreal, called CortAIx. CortAIx gathers today the whole innovation chain in one place : R&D lab, Design Center and engineering & devops squads.

Research Objectives/Sub-Objectives:

The aims of the AI @Centech programme are to:

  • accelerate startups by giving them counsel, expertise and access to Thales' technological platforms and AI R&T experts
  • co-built cutting-edge solutions into the Group's markets, whilst supporting the emergence of the next worldwide artificial intelligence champions

The students will help Thales create, deploy and review the AI @Centech programme.

Methodology:

    Thales provides AI specialists technical coacing and business coaching to the startups

    Methodology will vary from a startup to the other, but will involve user research, technical analysis, realization of Proof of concept or MVP (Minimum Viable Product)

    During the research project, the intern No 1 will:

    • Deploy Design Thinking methodology all along the innovation process, to support the merging of technical solutions
    • Establishes strong relationships with Business Lines (BL) to find and promote the best AI intensive MVPs and Regional MVPs
    • Communicate around the programme internally (Center of expertise in AI for Thales, Business lines…) and externally (startups, academia…) with a focus on North America;
    • Communicate around the Open innovation vision and the platform strategy
    • Business intelligence analyse: maintain up to date and develop the ecosystem knowledge regarding AI (startups, accelerators, centers of expertise in AI, academics…)
    • Analyse qualitatively and quantitatively the impact of the programme for start-ups and for the ecosystem
    • Provide recommendations to improve the program for Season 2
    • Prepare the launch of Season 2 of the programme

    During the research project, the Intern No 2 will:

    • Ensure rapid and continuous development of Proof of Concepts that will be defined between Thales and the startups during the programme
    • Be the operational and technical link between a Thales Product Owner and the technical teams that develop on the Digital Platform
    • Facilitate the relation between Thales’ coaches (technical and business) and the startups
    • Establishes strong relationships with Business Lines (BL) to find and promote the best AI intensive MVPs and Regional MVPs;
    • Communicate around the Open innovation vision and the platform strategy
    • Provide feedback and recommendations on the programme to improve the program for Season 2
    • Prepare the launch of Season 2 of the programme

    Expertise and Skills Needed:

    Following the launch of an ambitious startup acceleration programme around AI, Thales Digital Solutions is looking for 2 interns to work both with the startups and Thales’ technical coachs (AI experts) and business managers, to ensure concrete business impact of AI solutions in Thales business. You will be integrated in the AI @Centech program team, and will be in action during the first season of the programme (6 months, ending in December 2019)

    Expertise and skills desired for both candidates:

    • Experience in a Technological business context or equal Industry corporate context;
    • Results driven, with product enhancement at the center of the work;
    • Curious, excellent social skills
    • At ease communicating with technical developers, Executives, Marketing and Business Development professionals;
    • Passionate and personally driven.
    • Bilingual English/French

    Intern No 1 needs to have innovation competencies profile:

    • Strategic design
    • Design thinking
    • Management of innovation

    Intern No 2 needs to have DevOps technical competencies profile:

    • Data center/Cloud
    • Linux
    • Highly available architectures and technologies (Nginx, Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, Artifactory, Postgres, Elasticsearch, TensorFlow, KubeFlow)
    • Programming experience
    • Big Data (Hadoop, Spark)
    • Large Storage Management
    • Continuous Development/Continuous Delivery/Continuous Deployment
    • Competency in AI/Data analytics
