About the company: 

Virgil Systems is a rapidly growing network technology company which provides industry-leading security, reliability and trust. This allows our stakeholders and society to prosper from the unprecedented growth of devices, critical services and economic activity dependent on legacy and next generation networks (5G/IoT). Our core product is the Virgil Integrity Network™ (VIN™) which leverages distributed ledger capabilities and an advanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) code implementation to ensure data integrity and availability in addition to network management and analytics (AI/ML).

At the core of this product is our novel FEC code implementation, which attains industry-leading error correcting capabilities (Bit Error Rate) while minimizing the cost of data redundancy. Existing cutting-edge FEC codes, such as Low-Density Parity-Check Codes, standalone Polar Codes and Turbo Codes require much higher levels of data redundancy. As an encoding layer, VIN™ capabilities are deployed at network endpoints and compatible with legacy and next generation wireless communication systems.

We are currently demonstrating  our ability to meet 5G KPIs as a part of the ENCQOR 5G Testbed. This R&D will determine the feasibility of  becoming a component of 5G network infrastructure to ensure operational continuity for critical systems and assure Quality of Service in adverse and hostile environments.

Describe the project.: 

Virgil Systems is currently engaged in a multi-year phased global rollout of the VIN™ with a global information supply chain enterprise. Over the project lifetime, key deliverables include the proof of value, testing, and global deployment of the VIN™ in mission critical environments with the objective of implementing a high assurance data transmission and data integrity network.

The first phase of this project concluded in early 2020, with exceptional results: data integrity (correction) withstanding an excess of 80% corruption and destruction of network data (in transit and in rest), and operational continuity (data availability) with an excess of 80% of network node failure. Following phases of this project include deployment into global networks for assured data transmission in adverse and adversarial environments. The encoding method enables content-addressed distributed storage, guaranteeing content delivery without having a single point of failure for data breaches and leaks.

Phase 2 of the project is set to begin in Fall 2020. This phase of the project requires a Network Engineer experienced with deploying and maintaining network services that will ensure our middleware encoding deployment matches connectivity provider SLA, in terms of throughput, latency and transactions per second, while maximizing the error correcting capability and data recoverability of our solution for all network types (sensors, documents, static multimedia and streaming) on Wi-Fi, Cellular, WAN/LAN, Radio and Satellite networks. The deployment will require designing and developing APIs with the software engineering team for a seamless integration into customer workflow.

Finally, the network will be subject to 3rd party vulnerability assessments for objective assurance of data integrity and availability provided by the VIN™. The network engineer will also be essential in providing transition planning for continuous R&D, detecting potential attack vectors, and integration into 5G networks.

Required expertise/skills: 

  • Ensuring we deploy an effective implementation of core technology on any network (Wi-Fi/LAN/WAN/Cellular/Internet/Intranet/RF)
  • Assess product performance (KPIs) and interoperability requirements 
  • Assess requirements for customer expenditures for product deployments to match connectivity provider SLA
  • Identifying QoS degradation causes on product networks
  • Work with solutions and technical teams to propose network architecture for optimal deployments
  • Assist in analyzing customer requirements for engineering requests
  • Generate roadmap to scale onto networks of arbitrary sizes and hardware specifications (simplified network architecture)
  • Building network models and assessing third party software needed
  • Required skills and experience:
  • Experience deploying critical network products or services
  • Familiarity with 5G architecture, including RAN
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Familiarity with cutting edge network security approaches, network design and implementation for wired and wireless networks
  • Understanding of API abstraction practices for network services
  • Experience designing (R&D, Architecture) and deploying (API integrations, interfaces, mainteneance) network services and dedicated networks
  • Desired skills and experience:
  • Programming and scripting skills plus Linux expertise preferably with a networking SDN solution (e.g. ZeroTier or other similar OpenFlow based solutions)
  • Experience with standards setting organizations (IEEE, 3GPP, IETF)
