Please describe the project.: 

Quantum Chemist – Vancouver, BC

As a member of our Quantum Computing Team, you will work in collaboration with other researchers and software developers and utilize your theoretical chemistry and scientific programming experience to contribute to developing new hybrid algorithms for leveraging near-term quantum computing platforms for quantum chemistry simulations and its applications in advanced materials science and life sciences. We are recruiting two fixed-term (four months) positions with the possibility of extension and/or a permanent role.  

In addition to a significant research component, this position also focuses on prototyping, developing, testing and validating new ideas using object-oriented languages such as C++ and python, and following good practices in continuous delivery, documentation, and testing.  You will also have the opportunity to acquire further experience in high-performance computing and take part in our client engagements.

As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to be one of the pioneering scientists experimenting with emerging, cutting-edge quantum computing hardware or simulation frameworks available through our partnerships with leading manufacturers in the field such as Microsoft, IBM, and Rigetti. You will collaborate with a world-class team of quantum physicists, quantum chemists, computer scientists, HPC software developers, and operations researchers. You will also have the opportunity to work with some of our largest S&P 100 industry partners such as Dow Chemical to explore the applications of emerging computing platforms in their business.

Software Developer – Vancouver, BC or Waterloo, ON

This is a unique opportunity for a graduate level student with a passion for working at the frontier of new technologies. As a Software Developer on our Hardware Innovation team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists and engineers from various fields (quantum information and computation, computer science and engineering, etc.) to develop our software stack of tools for study and analysis of quantum hardware, circuit designs, noise model simulations, and algorithm performance. We are looking to fill the role as soon as possible for a minimum 8 month term.

Required expertise/skills: 

General
• Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++ and/or Java
• Strong graduate level track record of research as demonstrated by your peer reviewed publications and presentations
• The ability to conduct research in an interdisciplinary environment, both independently and as part of a team
• A high level of comfort providing feedback to team members, and soliciting and acting on feedback to improve your performance
• Proactiveness in seeking out opportunities to help move projects forward and contribute to their improvement
• An eagerness to learn about new trends, tools, and technologies, and to continually consider how these will influence our projects in terms of opportunities and challenges
