About the company: 

The company is a startup based in Montréal focused on developing a Battery Energy Storage Systems as a Service. Our technology will improve the resiliency of electrical networks by deploying spent EV batteries for a second life as battery energy storage systems in smart grids environments with Renewable Energies as main source of Energy

Describe the project.: 

The project will be aimed at developing a Battery Management System (BMS) that is specifically geared towards the Spent EV batteries coming out of transportation industry during their first life, controlling Current/ Voltage/ Temperature for their second life in Renewable Energy Microgrid environment.

The company will offer a service rather than a product. It will offer Battery Energy Storage System as a Service (BESSaS).  

Required expertise/skills: 

We are looking for postdoctoral fellows with the following expertise:

  • Strong experience in the development of battery algorithms,
  • Ability to developing communication interface with a large set of batteries,
  • Knowledge of battery system architectures and battery management systems,
  • Thorough understanding of safety requirements for Li-Ion battery,
  • Hands-on experience in various Battery chemistry,
  • Strong experience in hardware development of the cell balancing system for Spent EV batteries’ cells, with its main role to balancing different cells, modules, and packs throughout the Battery stacks to ensure reliable operation of the BESS,
  • Proficient in one or more of technology software ARM, SM Bus, CAN, I2C, RS-485, Modbus, Power Controls, Hardware in Loop, MATLAB, Python, etc
  • Familiar with BMS certification requirements from International certifications authorities (UL, CSA. TUV)
