About the company: 

veritree is developing a system for verified global restoration projects. The veritree system leverages blockchain technology to provide planting organizations with an integrated planting management platform. This allows planting organizations to gather ground level data, manage their projects more effectively, and deliver sponsors a world-class experience. 

Describe the project.: 

As 2021 ushered in the United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration, it brought with it a wave of interest in forest and landscape restoration programs. Although there are a plethora of planting organizations and tools being developed to support planting globally, there is no standardized process or impact metrics to assess across projects. It is therefore difficult to assess the efficacy of planting operations and tools. As more corporations are engaging with Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to reach climate ambitions of net-zero emissions, there is a need for a systematic comparative audit of planting organizations and their potential impact. Moreover, advancements in remote sensing, LiDAR and Machine Learning are enhancing monitoring capabilities across different land uses. The research project aims to conduct a global audit of planting organizations, identify their metrics for impact, price structure for planting and monitoring systems. The deliverables will be the creation of a planting organization directory as well as an assessment of global forest monitoring tools. veritree provides the use of the monitoring platform free of charge to non-profit organizations. The research will enable the company to identify potential planting partners and support global restoration and monitoring efforts. Identifying technology within the forestry space will enable veritree to have adequate competitor analysis and support innovations on the platform.
