About the company: 

Toronto company protecting temperature-sensitive medicines by better controlling its internal and external environments. The first commercial product is an external coating for pharmaceutical glassware with enhanced thermal insulation and near-complete biocompatibility.

Please describe the project.: 

The company is seeking a new, greener, more sustainable formulation to replace its current glass surface modifier. As the proprietary insulation coatings created by the company are hydrophilic during coating formation, it is important that the new modifier formulation is designed to maximize adhesion of hydrophilic/ weakly charged polymers onto a hydrophilic/ weakly charged surface (treated glass).

It is expected that the Mitacs Candidate and his/ her associated research lab has capabilities in depositing (onto glass surface) and testing iterations of the formulation created in house.

Required expertise/skills: 

- MSc or higher level in in material chemistry, chemical engineering, or a comparable field of study - Mastery of synthetic chemistry techniques in wet-lab setting - Understanding of polymer chemistry or surface chemistry, on practical or theoretical basis - Thorough understanding and familiarity with analytical methods such as NMR, IR, XPS, and SEM - Meticulous in accurate record keeping and data analyses - Responsible, able to actively contribute in biweekly or monthly research meetings with value - Team player, able to communicate in a succinct and clear fashion - Experience writing academic manuscript an asset
