CEC Corp's R&D team is constantly involved in developing high-quality products that are in compliance with Safety and Environment Regulations and tested in the Quality Control Laboratory.

Describe the project.: 

We have a few products that we must develop such as Epoxy Marine (good for the marine industry to be used underwater), Epoxy Earth (bio-safe epoxy), etc.

We would need help with finalizing our products formula and performing required testing (mostly ASTM standards) and performing research on market requirements. ASTM D3359, ASTM D4541, ASTM D3363, ASTM D4587, ASTM D7027, ASTM D1308, ASTM D5402, and ASTM D1002 are some of the examples of testing that we need to perform. 

We currently have three types of epoxy adhesives, and one type of epoxy coating, that we need to perform mechanical testing as per ASTM standards and evaluate the results and record them.

The candidate will need to conduct the necessary testing at their college/university. Testing may slightly change, but tests being considered are listed below:

  • ASTM D3359: Standard Test Methods for Rating Adhesion by Tape Test
  • ASTM D4541: Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength of Coatings Using Portable Adhesion Testers
  • ASTM D3363: Standard Test Method for Film Hardness by Pencil Test
  • ASTM D4587: Standard Practice for Fluorescent UV-Condensation Exposures of Paint and Related Coatings
  • ASTM D7027: Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Scratch Resistance of Polymeric Coatings and Plastics Using an Instrumented Scratch Machine
  • ASTM D1308: Standard Test Method for Effect of Household Chemicals on Clear and Pigmented Coating Systems
  • ASTM D5402: Standard Practice for Assessing the Solvent Resistance of Organic Coatings Using Solvent Rubs
  • ASTM D1002: Standard Test Method for Apparent Shear Strength of Single-Lap-Joint Adhesively Bonded Metal Specimens by Tension Loading (Metal-to-Metal)

Required expertise/skills: 

For formulation and testing, we would like to have someone with Polymer knowledge preferably with experience or some sort of knowledge of epoxy adhesives. The preferred intern is someone with Polymer/testing expertise.
