About the company: 

The Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism (CILAR) is a coalition of innovation leaders and allies committed to bold action and collaboration to drive systems change. Our mandate is to end anti-black and systemic racism, and other barriers to participation in the innovation economy. We do this by establishing best practices and scaling network partner programs across five pillars: youth development, job opportunities, venture & capital, community & leadership, and inclusive innovation & technology. To date, we have partnered with various equity-serving organizations to provide programs such as reverse mentoring, skills training, and business grants for Black business owners. We have also hosted various executive learning panels for our members to raise awareness on various topics that affect black, indigenous, and people of color communities, and have developed tools to help our leaders take action to champion change within their own organizations.

Describe the project.: 

The main goal of this project is to develop a sustainable business model to strengthen the overall reach and pace of our impact and scale. Moreover, this project will help CILAR generate important data, insights, and thought leadership, serving as a centre of excellence for innovative DEI programs, resources, leadership, and quantifying the economic and social returns of inclusive innovation.

The selected candidate will:

  • Conducts research to support the CILAR team's research needs, including identifying global comparators and benchmarks
  • Support the ED in developing recommendations for a sustainable business model aligned to a strategy based on market research
  • Assist the Programs & Pillar Chairs in the design of a data collection processes, tools, and research framework that will integrate research best practices and requirements (this would not include the implementation/execution of the survey)
  • Identifies areas of research that may be of value and relevance to CILAR and its’ members
  • Support in the development of a change management plan to implement and roll out the required business model changes

Methodology/techniques that will be used are:

  • Primary & Secondary Research
  • Literature Reviews
  • Surveys
  • Data Collection & Analysis

Required expertise/skills: 

  • A post-secondary degree
  • Experience collecting, preparing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Outstanding critical thinking skills in applying research insights
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and G-Suite
  • Familiarity with cultures and terminologies of industry, government, and the academic community
  • Experience working with start-ups is an asset
  • Knowledge of the charitable and non-profit sectors is an advantage
