About the company:
We are a municipality of 24,000 people in the Sea to Sky region of BC. The planning department is engaged in land use planning to support the housing, employment, environmental, and social needs of the community.
Describe the project.:
We are working on a neighbourhood planning process for the Garibaldi Estates and the next phase of the project includes the design of 3 land-use scenarios for future land uses in the neighbourhood. These will represent various levels of residential and commercial infill to support housing, climate, employment and transit objectives.
As part of the process to present these scenarios to the community, we would like to create visuals of the neighbourhood with the 3 different infill densities. We currently use ESRI ArcGIS Pro for our mapping software. The end goal of the Mitacs project is to:
- Create a method that integrates with our ESRI software and can visually depict how the neighbourhood looks now and at full build-out in the future in the 3 different land-use scenarios. The depictions should be able to show the future state of the neighbourhood at ground level and birds-eye view. The output would be a number of static images from different viewpoints of the neighbourhood in the three different land-use scenarios. These images would be used in public meetings, on social media, on websites, and in reports.
- The intention is to apply this method to the Garibaldi Estates, but a secondary goal is to set up the system so that it could be applied to other parts of the community in the future.
