About the company:

PECO stands for Plastic Essence Collaborative. We make art from used so plastic waste. Our vision is to reimage our relationship with plastic through conscious collaborative creativity.

Our Mission is twofold:

  1. We create stunning, original art pieces from melted plastic plates with unique designs.
  2. We work with local residents and businesses to raise awareness about the current plastic crisis.

Our purpose is to enable residents and businesses to become part of the solution to the plastic crisis. Our end product is the artwork.

Describe the project.:

We have been engaged by a local shopping mall to collect plastic from the guests that visit the mall, educate them on the issues around plastic waste and create an art piece using the collected plastic.

The project innovation is designing both the physical booth experience as well as the Awareness Campaign. Once complete, the intern will become fully immersed in the marketing of our program onsite by hosting the booth in the mall. He/she will explain the project, field questions, and survey themes for the resulting artwork.

The learning from this engagement will define programming for subsequent commissions as a multi-phase experience for businesses and organizations.

The main method for this project is direct-to-consumer interaction. People will be invited to collaborate by bringing their own plastic waste into the mall to be incorporated into the final art piece. Surveying and on-spot discussions will facilitate further learning and feedback as a collaborative experience.
