Recent work includes VectorSense in-road sensor technology, which utilizes time domain reflectometry technology to measure tire contact at highway speeds to derive a variety of vehicle characteristics.  IRD is currently researching and developing non-intrusive vision AI technology for the ITS industry.

Describe the project.: 

International Road Dynamics is a leader in developing and delivering Intelligent Transportation Systems to customers around the world. Through an innovative product portfolio, IRD offers a variety of customer-valued solutions from commercial vehicle enforcement and traffic safety, to tolling and data collection. At the core of these solutions locally manufactured weigh scale products provide valuable high accuracy weigh-in-motion data. This project is intended to ensure and build on the quality of the products by enhancing manufacturing processes through automation.   

We want to redesign the manufacturing test environment for transducer quality measuring devices for increased efficiency and repeatability. The system is currently semi-automated and desired to be fully automated and continuously optimized through feedback loops and self-calibration. This can be done via software, PLC, or other comparable means. The system uses a load cell to measure loads applied to the measuring devices. Test loads are currently applied via a hydraulic system. Conversion to an electric system would be preferable, but other updated options would be considered. An electric signal is generated from the product dependent on the applied load which in turn needs to be processed to determine pass/fail status. Test certificates including pass/fail criteria should be automatically generated for each tested product. Test results should be stored in a database for future analysis and evaluation. Trending of data and automated indicators to signal any decrease in performance (to the product or test environment) would be beneficial.
