In light of disruptions caused by COVID-19, companies employing frontline workers must balance health and safety with maintaining productivity to survive and thrive in an unpredictable economic climate. This picture is complicated by the need for rapid learning in new, redeployed, and longstanding employees. How is workplace learning impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and how can it be optimized as the pandemic continues to evolve?

Identifying Questions for Game-Based Learning through Deep Learning

Game-based learning tools often make use of questions to measure and encourage learning, but generating questions can be challenging, especially at the scale that companies like Axonify are required to do. In this project, the intern will design, implement, and evaluate a system that can apply machine-learning on a corpus of text (e.g., a textbook) to automatically generate questions that can be used in game-based learning tools.

IMMERSe: the interactive and multi-modal experience research syndicate

The purpose of this project is to provide insight into how game-based learning can be used to motivate positive workplace behaviour and learning over time. The intern will work with an established industry partner that has deployed a game-based learning platform for the workplace, and analyze user performance and motivation data that the industry partner has gathered from their platform.
