Visualizing information in situ with 3D photorealistic environments

Advances in computer graphics and display technology have brought new opportunities to create stunning visual effects and interactive experiences.Industry concerned with data visualization is seeking to incorporate these advances into their visualization pipelines. For example, our industrial partner LlamaZOO Interactive Inc. attempts to present abstract data situated in 3D realistic scenes. However, most research in information visualization assumes that the environment is a simple, abstract, monochromatic 2D plane.

Immersive Visual Analytics for Large Industrial Data

We investigate new possibilities for industrial data visualization and analysis with the latest Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (AR/VR) technologies. In this cluster research, we will apply the state-of-art visual analytics methodologies to the forestry, manufacturing and mining industries, and evaluate the potential benefits for the newly introduced technologies.

Interactive Mesh-based Volumetric Visualization

Our industrial partner, LlamaZOO Interactive Inc, publishes the first-of-its-kind digital anatomy study and reference app, EasyAnatomy. For this app, dissecting an animal model and see its internals are important facets of the learning experience. Through our research, we will enhance this experience by designing an interactive 3D visualization of an arbitrarily dissected model, and accelerate the graphics rendering for mobile devices; enabling personal, interactive learning experience anytime, anywhere.
