Where are Mitacs Training courses currently offered?

Instructor-led courses are offered in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. 

Online courses are available throughout Canada. 

What kind of courses are offered?

Mitacs Training courses are focused on four core competency areas in Professional Development. These are Leadership and Management, Communications and Relationship Building, Personal and Professional Management and Entrepreneurialism. The individual courses in the training curriculum build skills in each of these competencies. For more information on our specific courses, click here.

Do your courses favour some disciplines over others?

No. Our courses offer an interdisciplinary approach to professional skills development. Participants will benefit from industry expertise and teaching methods that will give them the skills to succeed while augmenting their academic learning.

Who is eligible to participate in Mitacs Training courses?

Our courses are open to all students currently registered at a Canadian university or participating in any Mitacs program (Accelerate, Elevate, and Globalink). They are also open to past students who have graduated from a Canadian academic institution in the last 2 years.

I was not born in Canada but attend a Canadian institution. Am I eligible to attend Mitacs Training courses?

Yes. As an international student attending a Canadian academic institution, you are eligible to attend our instructor-led courses.

I am no longer a university student. Can I still attend Mitacs courses?

Yes, you can! Courses are open to students who have graduated from a Canadian institution in the past two years.

Where can I find a list of upcoming Mitacs Training courses at my institution or in my region?

First, sign onto EDGE by clicking here. (If you are a first-time user, please set up an account.) 

Once signed in, you'll find list of courses and sessions on your dashboard by clicking on the ‘Catalog’ tab. You can either search the course by name or use the 'Advanced Filterings' tab to search for courses and sessions based on province and city. Please note that you can filter for online courses under the 'Course Type' tab as they are not categorized by province or institution.

How do I register for an instructor-led course?

First, sign onto EDGE by clicking here. (If you are a first-time user, please set up an account.) 

Once you have created an account and signed in, you can search and enroll in courses or instructor led sessions by viewing them in the ‘Catalog’ tab on your dashboard. You can select the course you are interested in and click the ‘Enroll’ tab to choose available sessions at a location you prefer.

How do I register for Mitacs Training courses?

To register, you simply access EDGE by clicking here. If you are a first-time user, you must first create an account and then sign in. 

How do I know if I am registered or on the waiting list for a course?

Following your registration, you will receive a confirmation email. You may also view your profile in EDGE under ‘My Activity’ or go to your ‘Inbox’ for system messages.  You may also view your current status by clicking 'My Courses' followed by the course you wish to check. If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified via email when you have been allocated a seat in the specified session. 

I am on the waitlist for a course. How and when will I be notified if/when I have been added to the course?

If room opens up in the course, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment. 

You may also view your profile in EDGE under ‘My Activity’ or go to your ‘Inbox’ for system messages.

Where can I find the pre-course materials?

They will be available under the 'Resource' tab on each session page.

How do I cancel my course registration(s)?

You can cancel your registration(s) up until five  calendar days before the course starts. To cancel a course enrollment sign in to your account, go to the specific session through your ‘Catalog’, ‘My Courses’ or ‘Calendar’ from your dashboard and click ‘Cancel Session’. You will receive an email that confirms the cancellation.

Please note that cancellations will not be possible within the 5 calendar day period before the workshop and you will need to contact the training team if you wish to cancel your workshop registration.

I am unable to cancel my registration(s), what can I do?

Please contact the training team.

Can I show up late to Mitacs Training instructor-led course?

No. Late participants will not be admitted into the course. Late participants may also lose their seats to participants that are on the waiting list.

Can I attend part of a Mitacs Training course?

No. Participants are required to complete both online and instructor-led courses in their entirety. 

How do I receive acknowledgement of participation in a workshop?

You will receive a email once the course is complete that serves as the official record of your participation. A Mitacs certificate will also appear on your Edge account under transcripts, following the completion of a workshop.

You can access and print a transcript by clicking on the top right drop-down menu on your dashboard in EDGE. The transcript lists course titles, enrollment dates, and completion dates.
