Investigating the impact of probiotic supplementation on cognition and related health outcomes among video gamers

Probiotics are a form a good bacteria that provide health benefits to the host when consumed in adequate amounts. Previous research suggests that an individual’s cognitive function can improve following probiotic supplementation. Similarly, individuals display physiological changes related to stress and immune system function, improvements in mood, and improvements in sleep quality following probiotic supplementation. The purpose of the proposed research project is to investigate whether one probiotic treatment, Cerebiome® (Lactobacillus helveticus R0052 and Bifidobacterium longum R0175), can improve cognitive function in healthy, young adult video games. Changes in other health-related outcomes, including biomarkers of stress, immune system activity, mood, and sleep quality will also be investigated.
