Lightweight Multifunctional Hybrid Nanocomposites and Foams for Advanced Automotive Applications

Over the past decade, there has been a global increase in environmental awareness leading to an overwhelming need for lightweight polymer-based materials that possess demanding mechanical, physical, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity characteristics that meet the standards of novel automotive applications. The focus of this project is to develop industry-ready, lightweight, multifunctional materials, as well as their corresponding manufacturing technologies, to meet the standards for energy efficient products, thereby replacing conventional fiber-reinforced composite materials currently used in the automotive industry. Ultimately, the outcomes of this project will greatly benefit our industrial partner (Axiom Group Inc.), who is a global leader in the development and manufacturing of thermoplastic injection molded products, as the commercialization of these novel engineered materials has the potential to revolutionize the automotive industry.
