Metabolite pathway mapping in Euglena: A strategy for predictable product optimization

Noblegen Inc. is an advanced bioproducts manufacturer dedicated to developing cost-effective, naturally-derived biomaterials and biochemicals for a wide range of consumer and industry sectors. We employ a unique organism, algae, to continue to do what it does naturally - decontaminate wastewater sustainably and affordably while also generating valuable biomass for use in biomaterials and biochemicals production. In this research, we propose to map out the pathways that are active in algae.

Prediction Improvement on User’s Consumption

The goal of the research is to implement different data mining algorithms in order to improve the prediction on a user’s electricity consumption. The research will be dedicated to improve the existing algorithms or implementing new algorithms for the improvement of the prediction accuracy. Besides application of the prediction algorithms, different data pre-processing methods will be used. Research will include supervised and unsupervised modelling of the dataset by using the R programming language.

Balancing costs and benefits of invasive species management for endangered wetland reptiles

Invasive species can have major effects on the landscape, but sometimes their effects are assumed to be negative before they are scientifically tested. The common reed is an extremely tall and robust grass that is moving rapidly into wetlands across Canada. Common reed is believed to threaten some reptiles by reducing their access to suitable habitats, but this has not been tested. In this project, we use state-of-the-art tracking equipment to directly test whether endangered turtles and snakes are forced to change their habitat use in areas impacted by the common reed.

Developing a Business Model for a Cleantech Accelerator

Technology business accelerators represents a relatively recent concept to accelerate the growth of technology companies. Little research has been done on how to best implement this concept to different sectors and the specific needs of the Cleantech sector received even less attention. My research will explore current accelerators’ design and develop a new business model for a Cleantech business accelerator that will be tailored to local conditions, expertise, and needs in the Greater Peterborough Area.

My research project presents a unique perspective on the Turkish experience of modernity from the side of the discredited, disavowed and repressed, and thus contributes to a better understanding (and to a better identification of the failures) of the modernization in Turkey that predominated much of the twentieth century. It does this through an exploration of paternity crisis that hinges upon the traumatic inception of modernity.
