The Canadian swine industry must adapt to current and emerging challenges to remain competitive. In general, the industry is focused on improving efficiencies and reducing costs of production. However, the industry also faces many concerns regarding environmental sustainability and societal acceptance of production that need to be continually addressed. Feed represents approximately 70% of the cost of production and plays a critical role in maintaining animal health and performance and in reducing the environmental impact of pork production.

UppstArt allows buyers to track the ownership provenance of artworks and resell their purchases any time. UppstArt also allows artists receive a royalty percentage every time their artworks are resold (Pending Canadian Legislation Artist Resale Rights). UppstArt is directed to living artists that produce original paintings.
The current project intends to create a software platform solution that solves the communication between organizations in the Music Industry. Overall, the platform uses third party systems to achieve the requirements of the problem statement. Moreover, the platform is built over abstraction levels to integrate different components. The research of the integration of these parties including blockchain technologies will solve the data transmission and accountability responsible for the payment distribution of value in the specific use case of the Partner in the Music Industry.
This project will support efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from coal-fired power generation. In this case, the greenhouse gas of interest is carbon dioxide which is captured at SaskPowers Boundary Dam Power Station near Estevan, Saskatchewan. This carbon dioxide is transported to the nearby Aquistore site, where it is injected into porous sandstone formations at depths greater than 3000 m.
Petroleum contamination in Canada is a major environmental concern. However, remediating petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil environments in cold climates, including northern sites, is very challenging and often prohibitively expensive, mainly due to low temperatures (short summer) and remoteness. Bioremediation is the use of microbial populations for degrading and detoxify contaminants and has been considered a cost-effective remediation technology for petroleum-contaminated cold-climate soils due to the common presence of cold-adapted indigenous hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria.
As Aboriginal people increasingly migrate to urban areas, it has become imperative to promote their socioeconomic engagement in the destinations. While there has been increasing research focuses on Aboriginal peoples quality of life (QoL) few studies explicitly measure Aboriginal peoples QoL based on a shared understanding of what QoL really means to Indigenous peoples and the government. Consequently, a meaningful conversation between the parties has not occurred to make a substantial improvement to the current status quo.
The research project will look at the appeals, elements, and themes present in luxury goods advertising and determine how luxury brands can integrate pro-social and empowerment messages into its advertising targeted toward women. This will be examined in the context of jewelry advertising as the partner organization for this project, Hillberg & Berk, is a Canadian jewelry company with the goal to create a purpose-driven international brand to empower women through design.
The project will involve the development of seven “pulse-based” lunches, which are designed to be easy to prepare (i.e. “out of the package”) for people in a typical busy office work environment. Pulses include non-oil legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, beans, and peas, which are a major component of the Canadian agricultural industry and an environmentally sustainable crop (i.e. they require low greenhouse gas input). The post-doctoral applicant (Maryam Kazemi) helped develop a pulse recipe book from a previous clinical trial where pulses reduced risk factors (i.e.
Heterosis is a natural phenomenon where offspring (hybrids) outperform their parents in many agronomic traits, although exploited in breeding the mechanisms controlling heterosis remain elusive. Genetic distance between parents has been positively correlated with heterosis, yet does not adequately explain the phenomenon. Dividing lines from any crop into heterotic groups that provide optimal combining ability upon crossing, is one of the most important goals of any hybrid breeding program. The main objective of this proposal is to define the heterotic pools of Brassica napus (canola).
