ERCO Worldwide, A division of Superior Plus LP, Saskatoon facility ("ERCO Worldwide-Saskatoon") is a manufacturer of caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid and sodium chlorate. This facility has four fully developed underground brine wells. The brine solution as produced from the brine wells contains 26% sodium chloride in it. This saturated brine is purified and supplied to the electrolyzer system to produce caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, and sodium chlorate.
In Canada while health disparities in Indigenous communities are getting much attention and Indigenous peoples are determining the path to healing using land based knowledge, the approach to health is still holding the reductionist and paternalistic global health philanthropy with the idea of the poor, traditional societies in need of charity and technology for better health. This contrasts with the growing realization that Indigenous health problems have strong sociocultural, political, and economic determinants that demand comprehensive approaches.
Research within this project will focus on the innovation and characterization of plant-based ingredients arising from pulses and cereals for the protein ingredient market. The global protein ingredient market was valued at $31.8 billion in 2016 and is expected to rise to $46.4 billion by 2022 with the greatest growth occurring in the plant protein ingredient sector. Consumers are looking towards alternative proteins, other than from animals (e.g., whey/casein from milk; ovalalbumin from eggs) and soy, because of allergen concerns and the rising costs of dairy proteins.
This Internship project will look at issues affecting the overall social conditions of First Nation youth in Northern, rural and remote communities, with a specific focus on the Northern community of Canoe Lake Cree Nation. Historically, the people of Canoe Lake lived a traditional lifestyle off the land, including traditional land that was lost to the Cold Lake bombing range. The loss of traditional land and livelihood has had enormous social effects on the community, and its peoples.
The current project aims to study a novel energy management system for residential heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Independently controlled wireless air damping vents will adjust the air flow in different zones of the building allowing independent control of the temperature which results in enhanced thermal comfort and energy savings. The intern will collaborate with the partner organization on studying a unique state-of-the-art predictive model to control the damping factor of the vents within fully closed to fully open range.
Flaxseed possesses many useful and valuable components, some in high concentration (oil, protein and fibre) and some as minor components (lignan, orbitides), as well as anti-nutrients such as cyanogenic glycosides and cadmium, which all need to be monitored during development and final production.
This research study aims to investigate the potential and performance of a novel Securitized Tokens as a Service platform. Blockchain is the distributed ledger of verified transactions, and smart contract is the programmable part of the blockchain which can automate more complex transactions. We can define the tokens on top of the blockchain platform; and actually, these tokens can stand for anything in real business world which can be transferred. In addition, smart contract is used to define the required rules of the business market through the blockchain.
The aim of the internship program is to develop a rehabilitation harness for horses and study its use together with a computerized lift system designed for rehabilitation of injured horses. Measurements used to direct harness design and rehabilitation protocols include movement analysis of the horses, physiological measurements and analysis of behaviour. The lift system was developed by the partner organization RMD Engineering, Inc. RMD has a material interest in the success of the rehabilitation harness proposed in this project.
Mycoremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) impacted soil utilizes mushroom to decontaminate polluted soil. Specific mushrooms including shiitake, oyster and other white rot fungus have been successfully degraded a wide range of recalcitrant soil contaminants. However, this process is quite slow and is sometimes limiting. It is hypothesized that insufficient bioavailable phosphorus supply likely limits the mycoremediation performance.
More than 41 percent of field crops produced in Canada are consumed within this country. However, there is little information available about the common consumption patterns of grain-based foods among Canadians as well as the health outcomes associated with different degrees of grain-based food consumption. Using the most recent Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) released in July 2017, this study investigates the data on consumption pattern of grain-based foods and contributions of grains to Canadian diet, health and wellbeing.
