Detection and prediction of cybersickness in virtual and mixed reality environments using wearables

Virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR) systems have burgeoned over the last couple of years with applications in healthcare, gaming, telepresence, and skills training, to name a few. Within the skills training sector, for example, police/law enforcement training is an important application domain which has seen increased adoption worldwide. In Canada, Public Safety and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have invested millions of dollars to set up state-of-the-art VR/MR facilities to train the next generation of law enforcement agents.

Roll-to-Roll Functional Material Deposition System

The manufacture of “smart devices” requires a large number of connected, low-cost embedded digital systems that are typically electronically connected on circuit boards. Our project develops a system to integrate functional materials directly into these boards which can provide or extend the capabilities of devices with functionalities such as memory, batteries or sensors. We develop a deposition system that directly structures these functional materials in a roll-to-roll system with improved characteristics as compared to requiring discrete extra components.

Plusieurs organismes et groupes produisent des données à propos de différents enjeux environnementaux. Or, il est difficile d’avoir une vue d’ensemble sur la situation environnementale estrienne lorsque les données sont éparses et difficilement accessibles.

Development of Low-Cost Sensor and Flexible Electronics using a Versatile Roll-to-Roll Magnetron Sputtering System

The proposed project aims to construct a robust and versatile roll-to-roll (R2R) magnetron sputtering system for thin film deposition. That system will favor the production of thin films of different materials with tailored properties and functionality onto flexible substrates in a single step. This will be made through a system composed of different stations with different targets and masks inside the process chamber, without the need for any hand manipulation during the manufacturing or any post-processing deposition.

This has made information processing tasks increasingly complex, and thus far, there exists no realistic platform that can meet the stringent requirements of the computation industry, e.g., in terms of power and speed. A potential solution are systems that can enable parallel processing of data.

High-dimensional hyper-entangled photonic cluster states towards quantum information science applications

Quantum technologies (QTs) such as quantum computing, information processing, and sensing will characterize next generation lives. For this reason, many efforts have been spent to implement quantum platforms for integrated, affordable, and reproducible QTs. Quantum photonics provides an ideal framework to achieve this goal. In this project, we will deliver an integrated quantum photonic platform capable of generating complex entangled states based on few photons simultaneously entangled in high-dimensional time and frequency modes.

The forthcoming advent of accessible quantum computation will put at risk any classical encryption protocols. Unbreakable data protection, against cyberattacks or unauthorized access, can be guaranteed by quantum encryption protocols, such as the quantum key distribution (QKD) technique.
