Au sujet de l’entreprise:

At Learn Different, we believe all children possess the ability to learn when talented educators apply the science of learning to curriculum, classroom experience, and the support and training of teachers. Our multidisciplinary team of developmental researchers, learning specialists, teachers, psychologists, psycho-educators, and content experts consult and collaborate with schools and their communities—in addition to educational and government agencies—in order to hone skills of local teachers.

Learn Different conducts our teacher training and program development in English and we have applied the science of reading to Indigenous language programs. The challenge we are trying to solve is expanding to the French language in order to better represent the needs of teachers across Canada. After speaking to local principals and colleagues it has come to our attention that there is a gap in the programming available for French teachers, and many important elements of diversity are overlooked in the existing, outdated programs.

Veuillez décrire le projet.:

The goal of this project is to develop a direct instruction French program that can be used in English elementary schools – specifically in core French classrooms. Currently, there is no consistency among French programs utilized to develop language proficiency. This project would see the development of an evidence-based systematic core French instructional program to be used by teachers in core French classrooms. The program will have a diverse and culturally responsive lens to better represent the diverse population, backgrounds, culture, and experiences of elementary students of Canada, which is currently lacking in many of the existing off-the-shelf programs.

The goal would be to have a complete French Direct Instruction program to be utilized by teachers in Canadian classrooms.

Main tasks to be performed by the candidate:

  • Apply French linguistic knowledge to the development of the program (i.e., vocabulary, knowledge of french phonemes and spelling patterns, oral language development, etc.)

Methodology/techniques to be used:

  • Applying a direct instruction approach to the French language,
  • Utilizing research based on the science of reading to develop the progression of French direct instruction language
  • Forming a program with the lens of a balanced literacy approach with a focus on vocabulary and oral language development through the creation of engaging, and hands-on student activities.

Expertise ou compétences exigées:

As this project is focused on the development of the French language curriculum it is important that the candidates have a strong background and proficiency in french:

1 fluent french speaker

1 person with knowledge of French linguistics

Expertise at the Masters or Doctoral level is preferred.
