Pivotal Health Science Inc. (‘Pivotal’) is a novel green technology platform development company that produces pharmacological grade nanobioparticles with broad-spectrum bioactive molecules directly from biomass or biological materials (plants, fungi, yeast etc).

The project will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Keith Brunt, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, who specializes in translational medicine and nanomedicine development in the biotech sector.

This research position will help advance the research and development of Pivotal’s sustainable nanobiotechnology for physicochemical quality assurance, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling for promoting health, and validate processes of engineering scale-up for commercialization. This is an interdisciplinary research position comprising areas of nanobiosystems development, engineering, and biological/pharmacological validation. Professional development in the commercialization of nanotechnology and career advancement to executive-level project management will be encouraged.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Synthesizing scientific literature
  • Exquisite accuracy in data collection, interpretation, and experimental design
  • Project management to develop the company’s platform technology while supporting parallel academic goals of the research laboratory
  • Undertaking independent and interdisciplinary research and product development in collaboration with academic performance metrics in nanomedicine
  • Evaluating data as it is collected and informing the direction of research and establishing protocols
  • Managing activities of the research as per Pivotal’s business requirements and academic goals of a Pharmacology Fellow
  • Assisting in preparing grant applications and manuscripts is a must.

The selected candidate will also be involved in academic dissemination activities and knowledge translation, such as conference presentations, peer-reviewed research papers, standard operating procedures, intellectual property filing, and collaboration with other external researchers/engineers/business executives and contract research organizations involved in the project.

Expertise ou compétences exigées: 

Minimum qualifications:

A minimum of Ph.D. in the related field of nanotechnology/nanochemistry, extracellular vesicle biology/physiology, nano-pharmacology/immunology, biophysics.

Preferred qualifications:

A successful candidate would have prior research experience with nanoparticle characterization such as DLS, zeta-potential, electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, formulation chemistry/engineering, in vitro and in vivo pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic models, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, super-resolution/confocal microscopy, cell biology, cell signaling pathways, cell culturing, immunoblotting, HPLC, or biosystem engineering. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are imperative.
