Biodiesel Purification using Ceramic Membrane in a Continuous Operation

This research project is on biodiesel purification using membrane technology. Biodiesel obtained after trans-esterification contains some impurities which may affect the fuel performance. Hence, it is necessary to remove them to result in final fuel meeting the quality standards. Biodiesel purification using membrane technology is less energy intensive when compared to other techniques. In this project, important parameters will be optimized and membrane cleaning protocols will be developed. The research conducted in the project will be helpful to the industry and will give them an alternative to existing biodiesel purification method. The process developed from this project will ultimately enhance the performance of biodiesel and will result in greener and cleaner Canada.
