Parameter optimization for washing operations in livestock buildings to improve sanitary status and reduce water consumption

Quebec swine production plays an important role in the Canadian economic. Cleaning and sanitation conditions are crucial for ensuring animal health and welfare. The washing, drying and disinfecting guide of the Fédération des producteurs de porcs du Québec provides general instructions for cleaning and sanitizing the facilities. However, a swine installation is a construction system made up by different types materials, and the cleaning of this system as a whole does not behave in the same way. Therefore, this project seeks to study different washing parameters such as water temperature, water pressure, distance between hose and surface, and water velocity for the different types of materials that are conventionally been found in a swine installation. As a result, a more specific washing procedure for each type of material will be elaborated and in the end of the project, it will allow transferring the knowledge and technologies to the swine producers.
