Plasticity and Fit Brains in Mild Cognitive Impairment

Worldwide, one new case of dementia is detected every four seconds. At this point in time, no effective drug therapy exists for cognitive impairment and dementia. As a result, there is much interest in lifestyle approaches. Specifically, complex mental activity, such as cognitive training, may be a promising method to combat cognitive decline in older adults. Thus, the overall aim of our proposed research is to determine the impact a mobile/online cognitive training platform, called Fit Brains by Rosetta Stone, on cognitive performance and brain plasticity in older adults at risk for dementia. If the findings are positive, our study results will establish Fit Brains as a valid commercial product to alter the trajectory of cognitive decline in this high risk population. This should drastically increase the profile of the partner organization both nationally and internationally.
