An Integrated GPS/INS/Visual Positioning System for Head-Mounted Devices

The Recon Jet is an eyewear that is targeted towards cyclists and runners. The Recon jet is attractive because it displays the athlete's performance, such as maximum speed and acceleration in real-time using the Recon Jet heads-up display technology. The current Recon Jet has a GPS receiver and onboard sensors that track the athlete position, and velocity, and displays the athlete's ride data on a map. The current Recon Jet GPS receiver and onboard sensors have poor positioning accuracy of the athlete at times when GPS receiver signal reception is lost.

Pediatric Cancer Drivers: From Target Discovery to Clinical Translation

Motivation for Research:

Real-time fatigue detection by remote eye tracking

Fatigue is a significant risk factor for operating moving vehicles in work settings that involve long duty hours or shift work rotations. A critical objective in fatigue management is to develop technology to establish fitness for duty, monitor fatigue in real time and predict performance failure. Eye movements (eyelid closure, blink rate and duration) are sensitive indicators of fatigue. Six Safety Systems has developed an eye tracking system that can monitor eye movements remotely.

Comparative effectiveness, and network meta-analysis of pre-insulin oral hypoglycemic drugs in the treatment of type II diabetes

The proposed project is two-phased. The first phase involves a study that will use specialized research analysis techniques to compare the effectiveness of pharmaceutical drugs used to treat type II diabetes and to identify if a group of drugs are producing similar benefits in terms of controlling the disease. The applicant’s clinical and epidemiological background would bring value to our study design for this and future projects. The second phase involves economic cost modeling that will forecast financial implications of study findings.

Hip fractures exert a profound toll on the independence and quality of life of older people, and over 95% are due to falls. Over 2000 hip fractures occur annually in hospitals in Canada. Wearable hip protectors are a promising method for preventing hip fractures, but patient compliance in wearing traditional garment-based hip protectors averages below 20%.
