Through this BSI internship, the student intern will make themselves available to the startups within the Town of Innisfil’s (“TOI”) business incubator, to provide them with business strategy and legal guidance. Much of this work will include assisting a variety of technology startups with intellectual property research and strategic guidance in the interest of ensuring that these Canadian ventures are putting their best foot forward, all while mitigating any unnecessary risk. The law student intern will coordinate weekly meetings and drop-in times for the startups within the TOI incubator to outline some of the legal and intellectual property research they need to complete. The student would then carry out this research and provide the startups with comprehensive reports addressing the concerns of the startups. These reports will be written by the law student and then submitted to the faculty and legal supervisors for review. The idea of this internship is to provide new Canadian ventures, within the partner organization’s incubator, with accessible, affordable, and comprehensive intellectual property and legal strategy. Thus allowing the startups to focus on continuing to develop their product or service, unburdened by the looming legal and IP concerns.
