Color degradation in glass-paint-adhesive compounds

Scriptam, a sub-company of Compagnie Canadienne de Tableaux Noirs Ltée (CCTN), produces high-end whiteboards, made out of an assembly of tempered glass, paint, tape and steel. For the last 3 years, they have had an issue with around 4% of their production. Their whiteboards, which are under a 50-year warranty, undergo color degradation in the form of stains after about 6 months. In addition to being a blow to their image and reputation, it is also a major financial and ecological problem: each defective whiteboard must be replaced at the company’s expense and cannot be recycled. The enormous amount of energy invested in the manufacture of the glass, its tempering, but also the solvents contained in the paint etc., are simply discarded. The main objective of this internship research project is therefore to identify the possible sources of this problem and converge towards a solution to avoid this situation to happen in the future.
