Creating Synthetic and Verifiable Community Energy Profiles with Foundational Models and Digital Twins

The proposed project supports the exchange of a PhD student and a Master’s student between Concordia University (CU), Canada, and Santa Clara University (SCU), USA, to conduct supervised research under the EuReCa Global Center, a global initiative that focuses on use-inspired research toward equitable and user-centric energy markets for resilient grid-interactive communities. The project will investigate innovative approaches to the synthesis and verification of AI-powered community energy profilling to enable better clean energy integration and market mechanism designs. Co-supervised by researchers at the two institutions, the interns will explore new ways to profile and validate community energy resources, consumptions, and related behaviours using foundational models and digital twins, leveraging a scalable hardware-in-the-loop co-simulation platform at CU. The intern will also facilitate research exchanges between the two institutions and collect use cases from local communities, thereby contributing to the development of international collaborations, industrial partnerships, and research projects at the EuReca Global Center.
