In this project, we would like to develop an enhanced Haptics Virtual Reality Ground Control Station (Haptics VR-GCS) to control an aerial vehicle using a virtual controller defined within the virtual environment. Such an advanced portable Haptics VR-GCS system is important to lower pilot workload and increase situational awareness. In the first place, the stand-alone VR headset would be connected to the haptics gloves and the flight simulation tool. The VR headset will be used to visualize basic flight simulation while the vehicle will be controlled via the haptic gloves and a virtual RC controller defined in the virtual environment. Secondly, the actual aerial vehicle equipped with an onboard camera will be flown using the VR headset while being controlled with the use of the haptic gloves. Finally, a test procedure will be conducted to assure the comfortability of the proposed Haptics VR-GCS.
