Canola is an important oil seed crop grown in western Canada and many parts of the world for its oil, biofuel, and meal utilization. One of the challenges faced by Canola growers is pod shatter which can lead to significant yield losses. With the advancement in seed technology and trait improvement there are now innovative solutions available to help mitigate this problem. Biostimulants specially seaweed extracts are being applied in agricultural crops to promote growth, prevent pests and diseases, and improve the quality of the products. The main goal of this project is to understand the role of Roullier extracts from Timac Agro on Canola pod shatter. Roullier extracts will be sprayed on three independent Canola varieties and change in pod shatter resistance will be analyzed through phenotypic, histological and genetic changes in pod architecture.
