Investigating the electronic structure of 4d transition metal oxides
Investigation of exotic electronic phenomena is at the forefront of scientific research in quantum materials, one of the key building blocks for the development of quantum technologies and industry. Here, we propose a project that is aimed at discovering and studying new electronic phases brought about from the interplay of various energy scales, coming from electronic correlations, structural elements of the materials, and spin-orbit coupling. We will perform leading research on the electronic structures of quantum materials based on 4d transition metals, focusing on perovskite ruthenates, arguably one of the riches sources of exotic electronic phenomena. During the project, we will also develop and upgrade the Quantum Materials Spectroscopy Centre (QMSC) beamline of the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron facility which will give the regular users more advanced experimental capabilities, and support users during their experiments at the beamline.
