Activities: Quantum Recon (QR) is a Canadian quantum-hardware company developing photonic quantum input/output (I/O) solutions to replace cryogenic coaxial cables in quantum computers. QR advances early-stage R&D and IP commercialization, engaging the market, mapping the competitive landscape, and defining go-to-market pathways. In partnership with UBC and SiEPICfab, QR is building a scalable manufacturing pipeline and establishing IP for next-generation integrated photonic control/readout components and frequency-selective routing.
Challenges: Today’s quantum processors face an I/O bottleneck: coaxial wiring imposes heat load, consumes scarce DR real estate, and inflates cost/complexity. This project will demonstrate photonic I/O that reduces cryogenic power dissipation, increases bandwidth and reliability, and lowers footprint, decoupling qubit count from I/O cost and heat. The goal is to enable control/readout architectures compatible with >106 qubits needed for error-corrected, fault-tolerant computation.
Benefits: The project positions QR as a leading Canadian supplier of quantum interconnect technologies, accelerating the scalability of quantum architectures. Expected outcomes include high-value jobs, new patents, and expanded domestic capability in advanced photonic and cryogenic manufacturing. By lowering cost and power barriers, successful demonstrations will enable commercialization of quantum I/O components, accelerating product development, generating licensing revenue, improving investor access, and strengthening QR’s leadership in the global quantum supply chain.
