Resolution and Scalability Trade-offs in Large-Lake SWE Modelling

This project investigates the performance and scalability of two advanced hydrodynamic models TELEMAC-2D and HiPIMS through a comparative study of Lake Ontario’s shallow-water dynamics. The intern, Mehrdad Jafarzadeh Khoshroudi (Western University), will conduct high-resolution simulations under the joint supervision of Prof. M. Reza Najafi (Western) and Prof. Qiuhua Liang (Loughborough University, UK), a world expert in GPU-accelerated flood modelling. The research will analyze computational efficiency, accuracy, and resolution sensitivity across both models. Findings will support improved forecasting workflows for large-scale lake and coastal flood systems in Canada and internationally.
