Wastewater pump stations (WPS) are essential for managing wastewater in urban areas. They ensure wastewater is conveyed to treatment plants and prevent overflows of untreated wastewater into the environment. The main objective of this project is to develop an innovative and practical real-time WPS control framework. This framework will forecast wastewater inflows and optimize WPS operation in real-time by minimizing energy use and sewer overflows. A variety of forecasting and optimization approaches will be explored and compared. The best forecasting model and optimization algorithm will be integrated within a control framework, as part of the Saas Nordicité platform of the industrial partner, Nordikeau. This integrated solution will be applied to an existing pump station to offer real-time pump sequence recommendations.
