Supporting Cultivated Meat Innovation through Cell Banking: Alberta Bovine Cells and More

This project aims to develop a bovine cell bank using Alberta beef to support the production of cultivated meat, a sustainable alternative to traditional meat farming. Instead of raising and slaughtering animals, cultivated meat is created by growing muscle and fat cells in a laboratory, providing real meat with a smaller environmental footprint. The research will focus on isolating and characterizing specific cell types and developing stable cell lines that can be used repeatedly in cultivated meat production.
By establishing a standardized and scalable bovine cell banking system, this project will create a reliable source of high-quality cells for researchers and companies developing cultivated beef products. The results of this research will help build a foundation for future advancements in cellular agriculture, contributing to a more sustainable and innovative approach to meat production that can help feed a growing global population while reducing the impact on natural resources.
