BLH Personalized Smart Wig Simulation and Health Monitoring

Wig is a wearable device that can be used to help with many aspects of our lives. Since it is in close contact with the human body, it makes it a great tool for human health monitoring. This can be done through the hidden sensors in wigs that keep collecting information about physical and mental health of users. Since different wigs match different people, considering the shape of their head, skin color and their own preferences, it is important for users to know how a certain wig changes their appearance. In this work, we plan to develop a smartphone application that lets users see themselves with new wigs without necessarily having to wear them, using their smartphone cameras. Users will be able to take a short video of themselves and see whether a wig that they chose fits them or not, only by a few clicks on their smartphones.

Organic compounds in water can be potentially hazardous. We will develop a green and solvent-free method for screening the organic pollutants in different water samples. Also, we will study the changes in water during the different treatment process. This research will benefit the community and provide a protection protocol.

CTRS is an impact business. A market intelligence agency doing work throughout North America, we are also a certified B Corporation that gives more than 5% of its billable hours as pro bono contributions to eligible non-profits such as the Downie Wenjack Fund and Food Banks of BC. Our pro bono community work is far ranging in portfolios such as homelessness, immigrant services, sexual violence, education, services for children, community economic development and entrepreneurship. We take environmental stewardship very seriously and we are a living wage employer.
This project is designed to support our leadership team to rethink and streamline some of our market intelligence offerings, so that we can better support non-profit and government business incubators throughout Western Canada. Although we have completed a significant number of small scale projects for these incubators over the past two years, we still have several challenges and this project’s scope would be to support us in overcoming these difficulties. This project will involve looking for new machine learning and AI-driven software tools, developing templated reports, re-defining our normal process, as well as piloting this new deliverable with some of our actual clients.

Using novel approaches to understand mountain pine beetle impacts on upper elevation sites in Jasper National Park

This proposed research will evaluate changes to ecosystem composition and configuration in the subalpine and alpine zones from the recent unprecedented outbreak of MPB in Jasper National Park (JNP), Alberta. New extended time-series data and innovative spatial assessments will be used to consider the impact of novel disturbances on species-at-risk, including whitebark pine, limber pine, and mountain caribou. An integral part of the proposed research will be building relationships with the Indigenous Peoples whose traditional lands JNP occupies to facilitate project co-design and knowledge co-production. The outcomes of this research will support decision-making by Parks Canada on restoration interventions in JNP as part of a larger assessment of the implications of rapid ecological change for environmental management in Canada’s mountain landscapes.

Development of a CRISPR screening platform for the oncology market

Preliminary clinical trials harnessing the immune system of cancer patients to combat disease have shown to have impressive efficacy. Immune cells
isolated from a patient are genetically altered to allow for improved detection of cancerous cells and subsequently re-introduced into the patient. Yet despite its promise, rapid and cost effective manufacturing of this therapy remains a barrier to widespread adoption. This collaboration will refine a lab-on-a-chip approach, allowing for automated liquid handling and optimization of experimental conditions specific to the genetic engineering of primary breast cancer cells at scale. Streamlining the process will reduce costs and allow for screening targets at scale, while automation will improve standardization and reproducibility.

Un des enjeux majeurs des organisations accompagnées est de pouvoir mieux définir quelle est leur stratégie de développement afin de maximiser leur potentiel d’impact social, environnemental et économique sur leur communauté et territoire.
Le projet de recherche proposé vise à développer une méthodologie d’accompagnement structurante pour jeunes organisations innovantes pour les aider à maximiser leur potentiel d’impact social et environnemental à travers la définition d’une stratégie d’impact et une méthodologie de mesure et évaluation d’impact. Ce projet se penchera sur deux secteurs en particulier : les systèmes alimentaires et la santé communautaire. Le but est de pouvoir proposer une méthodologie qui soit assez standardisée pour pouvoir augmenter les capacités d’accompagnement mais assez flexibles pour s’adapter aux besoins sectoriels et individuels de chaque organisation.
