DSORC Dementia613 Website and Marketing

Dementia affects our memory, thinking, emotions and ability to perform everyday tasks and the prevalence of dementia is increasing in the Ottawa region with over 24 000 living with dementia. Recently, the DSORC launched a new website called www.dementia613.ca – the region’s most trusted dementia-friendly resource directory. The site currently serves only between 4-5,000 of the 24,000 people in our region living with and supporting dementia, and the DSORC wants to decrease this enormous gap between actual and potential users. With COVID-19, all of the DSORC programs from The Dementia Society became online, and the organization has been having trouble reaching clients online.

With the help of my professors, Michael Mulvey (who is an expert in marketing and consumer behaviour) and Linda Garcia (expert on dementia), I will help grow the DSORC’s referral network and optimize users who visit the 613website. I will do so by creating a master list of Long-Term Care Homes and Retirement Homes and help the organization increase awareness and reach more clients as well as optimize the website to the specific needs of diverse clients.

Performance Evaluation for the Infer Engine–Optimization on Dynamic Advertising

Different from traditional online advertising, dynamic media campaigns show different impressions (visitors to a web page) with different advertisement based on the characteristics of the impression. Infer Engine is a system that optimizes bidding for media campaigns by maximizing total profit for every impression. The theoretical foundation of the Engine is a by statistics based learning theory for predictive models and mathematics analysis for optimization. The proposed project is on performance valuation of the Infer Engine with different learning algorithms. Comparison with other similar products will also be investigated. The metrics are the accuracy of the prediction and the learning time. The partner organization is the first company to apply these highly efficient techniques in this area. Performance analysis and comparisons will help the further improvement of the Engine.

Investigating subjective bias in machine-learning walkability systems

This project seeks to understand how pedestrians cultural background affect their perceptions of urban space, and how those perceptions are fed into modern urban planning systems. Walkability is a measurement of how easy it is for a pedestrian to move through space, and varies greatly throughout the world. Previous studies have shown walkability is highly subjective, and is influenced by ones cultural and economic background. One of the most cutting edge ways of measuring walkability utilizes machine learning to take data about a groups perception of different urban spaces and generalize those values to show larger patterns in walkability. However, most of theses studies do no take into account the aforementioned cultural subjectivity of the issue. This study seeks to gather data on peoples perceptions of these spaces from multiple cultural and economic backgrounds, and to use said data to create machine learning models that show how perceptions of walkabiliy vary between groups from different backgrounds. We are especially interested in gathering data from the pedestrians on the street in Pune, India and Montreal, Canada and comparing them.
