When Covid-19 hit in March, 80% of Blume’s business was B2B and we quickly pivoted to service the DTC model. Covid has also increased the desire for immunity boosting foods as well as health and wellness products. As an intern, I would directly support growth on our DTC channel, manage logistics for those orders, and help to better serve Blume’s new customer base.

Business Developer Intern

DineEasy is a central digital platform for restaurants that offers a completely customizable QR menu, app and website, digital boards, and a delivery platform – all connected and manageable via one central panel. They are now looking to scale their business by conducting extensive market research, crafting specific marketing messages, and beginning the process of sales. As a Business Developer Intern, I will be identifying niches in the restaurant industry through conducting situational analysis, conducting market research on these niches to identify their pain points, collaborate with the marketing team to craft the marketing messages, and collaborate with the sales team to do sales within the niches. I will have the opportunity to be involved in the whole process and to have a behind-the-scenes look at how recent grads of UBC have built a fast-growing company such as DineEasy.

3D Bridge Patenting and Commercialization Research

3D Bridge Solutions would like to hire Krystel Ametepeh, a JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School and prospective intern, to perform legal research related to patentable technologies for rollout later this year. The company specializes in developing technology to address security, rights management, and compliance monitoring with a particular focus on the healthcare industry. They have developed a secure digital medication platform through which health practitioners and other authorized care providers can connect with patients.

Amid the pandemic, many patients have struggled to be compliant with their medication regimen. Among these patients are the elderly and patients with comorbidities as well as those who take addictive or high cost medication. 3D Bridge has developed a platform which appropriately delivers medication to patients ensuring that only they access it. The device also tracks intake patterns and alerts medical professionals if a patient regularly neglects their medication.

Krystel will work alongside 3D Bridge’s team of inventors and business executives, providing legal research in intellectual property, health, and privacy law. Krystel will also work alongside 3D Bridge’s CEO and in-house lawyer, Karima Bawa, with the product’s precommercial rollout and address the legal requirements associated with commercialization.

Resettlement Experience in Quebec: Arts-Based Approaches to Work with Adolescent Refugee Girls

Resettlement in Canada is beneficial to adolescent refugee girls only if they have access to appropriate services like language classes, education, and work (Ratkovic et al., 2017)
Also, with enough support during resettlement, adolescent girls can gain skills that contribute to Canada’s economy in the long run (Picot et al., 2019). Therefore, effective resettlement can be
beneficial for both refugees and their host countries (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 2019).
However, few studies have focused on adolescent refugee girls’ experience after resettlement. This is particularly important
at the present time when hundreds of asylum seekers are working on front line of Canada’s battle with COVID-19, risking
their lives, and at the same time uncertain of how their future looks in Canada (Rowe, 2020). Even for those admitted in
Canada, it is not clear how they are experiencing resettlement during this pandemic. By placing adolescent girls at the center
of exploration and analysis, this study identifies the challenges faced by this population. The findings will be used by Maison
d’haiti to create suitable programs that improve the resettlement experiences of adolescent refugee girls.

Marketing Intern (MBSI) (May 2021) – Physician Focus

As our MRI based screening services requires that our customers come to our facilities to be scanned, our expansion into several US markets has been slowed. We feel that we need to explore repositioning of our offering and our approaches to reach what we expect to be a very strong market for us, particularly the San Francisco/Bay Area, Florida and LA as we continue to expand into imaging partnerships. An intern will bring fresh eyes to help us better communicate our message and bring this life changing service to an even greater number of people as we continue to grow. There are 3 primary areas of focus that we feel an intern can both help us grow and provide an exciting opportunity for the intern’s growth and development. These may include content marketing & strategy, acquisition marketing & strategy, and marketing conversion, analytics & strategy.

Innovative Educational and Marketing Tools for Prospective IP Rights Owners

Bereskin & Parr (“B&P”) would like to hire Bonnie Hassanzadeh, a second year Juris Doctor Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School and prospective intern, to distill complex intellectual property (“IP”) law concepts via virtual educational and marketing materials for prospective clients. B&P markets their services largely to startups, investors, entrepreneurs, and technology managers who often lack an IP law background and need guidance for protecting their innovations and designs.

The COVID-19 pandemic hindered B&P’s ability to connect with prospective clients through in-person events. Lawyers from B&P typically use these events to educate innovators about the best ways to protect their IP and market B&P’s relevant services. As these events are now inaccessible, B&P is looking for new ways to educate and retain both prospective and existing clients in a virtual world.

With funding from Mitacs, B&P can hire a student intern to research and translate various IP law concepts to visually appealing and comprehensive educational and marketing materials. The student will also research marketing strategies for tailoring these materials to varying clientele and determine the most effective media to convey them. These materials would save prospective clients time and money.
