Canadian Zeolites for Integrated Desalination, Nutrient Recovery and Bioremediation

Natural Canadian zeolite is an attractive mineral for the restoration of lands disturbed by the extraction of natural resources such as metals, oil and gas. Dr. Wonjae Chang’s Environmental Engineering Lab developed a dualmineral prototype, using Canadian zeolites, for the desalination of potash brine-impacted water. Dr. Chang also demonstrated the significant accumulation of residual potassium in the mineral adsorbents following multiple desalination cycles for potash brine-impacted water. In collaboration with ZMM® Canada Minerals Crop. and using newly mined Canadian zeolite species, this research will further develop the mineral-based desalination cycles for potash brine as well as integrate them with nutrient recovery to assess the feasibility of using recovered nutrient-enriched minerals for the bioremediation of soils impacted by oil and gas production. Through this waste-to-valuables process using zeolites, potash mine waste products may ultimately be beneficial to oilfield soil remediation. This research will expand the life cycles, end-users and applicability of ZMM® zeolites for environmental technology.

Intern

By participating in this business strategy internship, one key skill that I will gain is being more proficient with valuation techniques and using Excel. This will help further my academic studies by being able to use Excel in a more efficient manner and being able to better understand valuation techniques during projects in class. The research project I am working on is writing an appraisal report. This consists of macro and micro economic research, valuations, as well as understanding neighbourhoods and real estate trends. The benefit to Garnett Wilson Realty Advisors is having more research done for appraisal reports.

Product development

1) Analyze incremental markets for Eli’s real estate product. Determine how to effectively establish the sales strategy, then test and implement a marketing plan in collaboration with Eli’s CEO and COO.
2) Examine the public health and resource sectors’ pain points as it pertains to implementing AI tools. Assess the size of addressable markets and develop plans for assessing product/market fit.
The responsibilities will be to prepare a strategic marketing plan based on the scope, and activities will include research, outreach, developing content and test campaigns that will enable us to modify and expand our base to respond to the new business environment.

Equity Research Intern

COVID-19 has significantly impacted our business and we have taken the following steps to mitigate this impact: applied to and received funding from the government’s CEWC (Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy) program; decreased full-time, permanent headcount; eliminated non-essential expenses, and;prioritized planned new hires, rescinded offers, and delayed start dates. Interns are important to the future success of our company as they will contribute to the workflow and output necessary to fulfill an influx of client requests, ultimately reducing customer churn during uncertain financial and economic times.
Scope: Work directly with Analysts across sectors and gain in-depth knowledge of the financial markets in the US and Canada
Key responsibilities & activities:
· Gain broad sector knowledge through our smallcap generalist team
· Create detailed financial models on both existing and new coverage and update current financial models for new
results
· Conduct historical financial statement analysis and future period forecasting
· Work to improve current models and create summary output sheets for company comparison purposes
· Coordinate, generate and maintain research reports, presentations and database
· Preparing documentation for analysts and portfolio managers to explain how we handle adjustments, non GAAP
results, restatements and other accounting principles
· Identifying inconsistencies in accounting across the database and implementing processes to correct them

Digital Marketing Strategist

SCHMEAR Naturals is an early stage natural skincare company based out of Vancouver BC. Since our launch in 2018, we have seen steady organic growth in our D2C markets and B&M wholesale channel. With the impact of the pandemic, we have seen an over 60% decline in our turnover directly attributed to the cancellations of events and closures faced by our wholesale partners. As a small business, we quickly launched our Shopify e-commerce channel. We now face the challenges of developing a digital marketing strategy to optimize this sales channel, while balancing the efforts of the re-launch of our superfood face masks (coming August 2020).

Research Analyst

My internship at Merchant Equities Capital Corp. will be an opportunity for me to work directly with the principal of the company and get an intimate experience in the finance industry, specifically merchant banking and private equity. During my time at Merchant Equities I will be supporting the principal, Mr. Leslie, in an audit of one of MECC’s clients, TRION Energy Solutions, where I will be responsible for gathering, summarizing, and organizing all of the necessary documentation. I will also assist Mr. Leslie in his efforts to fund TRION Energy Solutions during various tranches that will be fundamental in capitalizing their ground breaking research into a more efficient lithium-ion battery. I will support management’s vision to build and operate four environmentally friendly green facilities that are being engineered to convert annually tens of thousands of tonnes of garbage into high-grade renewable diesel and aviation fuels.(A fifth facility is contemplated to be built on a JV basis between CIELO and Seymour Capital, a company that is also a client of MECC). I will also help to model the costs and projected revenues of the green JV facilities, pursuant to which there are executed Memorandums of Understanding with CIELO.

Marketing Coordinator

The intern’s primary activity will be developing Flywheel’s go-to-market strategy & materials for potential clients. This will include working on positioning, writing case studies, updating proposals, and performing customer interviews. The intern will also provide marketing support for Flywheel’s clients when relevant. This may include reviewing online ads, updating websites for SEO, supporting with research & copy, and performing analysis.
The role is ideal for a student interested in diving deeper into online marketing & entrepreneurship, as well as for someone interested in an agency.

The intern will contribute to growing Flywheel’s pipeline of new business, the engagement of its website and the marketing outcomes of its clients. They will help us overcome the challenge of developing the pipeline in a highly uncertain time and help with maintaining client satisfaction in a challenging remote work environment.

Internal Marketing Intern

The intern will work directly with the CEO (and independently) to assess the current operations of the business and industry
and develop an e-commerce strategy and marketing plan on how to approach the market for its products. This will include an
analysis of all social media platforms.
The intern will need to:
1. Get an in depth knowledge of the current services of the business
2. Understand the operations of the business
3. With the CEO, understand how the business is pivoting given COVID-19
4. Research the industry and market and then develop an e-commerce solution.

Operations and Vendor Development Intern

As one of the market leaders in the eCommerce space in the US, Cymax Group has experienced elevated growth, and more recently a step-change increase in volume that can be attributed to COVID-19. With the closure of Brick and Mortar retail throughout the pandemic, there has seen a significant lift in the e-commerce sector. As we scale with the demand, the Intern will be looking to implement new strategies and concepts quicker and more aggressively while work with our vendors to create strong and profitable recommendations.

Data storage and State synchronization support in frameworks for smartphones and tablets

Web based application framework is a popular topic for solving mobile development on
different type of devices. This project aims to compare popular web based application
frameworks, and their performance in native APIs in large amount of data storage, NFC,
Bluetooth for inter device communication and HTTP (e.g. long polling, comet, websocket) and
push protocols for state synchronization. This research will offer a better understanding of the
abilities and limitations of using web based application framework and test whether they are
suitable for industrial uses.

Sales Strategist

Understanding that “class as usual” is now a relic of the past and that schools have rapidly adopted technology-first teaching approaches, ideal interns will assist in conducting market analysis to gather insights surrounding the new distance learning landscape. This analysis will require interns to meaningfully connect with our community of more than 18,000 educators to learn about ways that Simbi may most effectively facilitate a connection between educators and their learners – to become the go-to online reading platform for all elementary schools. Such analysis would also help to better calculate the willingness to pay of individual educators, schools, and districts to inform an overarching sales strategy that would go live by August.

Conception de roues de turbine renversée à haut ratio de pression et l’évaluation de leur niveau de confinement

Dans le but de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, l’industrie aérienne a tout intérêt à électrifier leur système de puissance. Par contre, un aéronef entièrement électrique n’est pas présentement possible en raison de la masse ajoutée par une batterie qui serait trop grande. En fait, étant donné leur densité de puissance trop faible, la meilleure solution est d’utiliser un système de propulsion hybride avec un moteur thermique comme générateur. La technologie développée par Exonetik et l’Université de Sherbrooke permet d’augmenter significativement la température dans les turbines à gaz avec l’utilisation de céramiques. Le projet proposé est de concevoir un agencement de roues de turbines (2) qui utilisent la technologie de pales en céramique retenues par un anneau externe. Le résultat de ce projet permettra de démontrer les avantages de la turbine renversée et de situer l’entreprise Exonetik par rapport à la compétition.
